Description
Bought this at the flea market and fixed it up. Dated to 1995--96. There are plenty of scratches and a ding, but people pay for that new now. Here's what's been done:
-Tuners removed and Fender Vintage Nickel Left tuners installed. You can see a screw hole on the back. I had to drill out the holes and use Stew Mac conversion bushings, don't remember the size now. Vintage bushings were too small. It is a little rough around the bushing holes from drilling them out, a couple of pencil sized chips, but nothing glaring.
-New Fender High Mass Tremolo installed with 3 new Fender springs.
-New Fender left handed trem arm
-All electronics were cleaned up and I sprayed Detox It on them. Everything functions great!
-Pickguard was given a good wipedown and I added a new set of Fender aged pickup covers, switch tip and trem tip. I will include the back cover, but I don't have any screws.
-With the pickguard off, I discovered a crack in the wood piece just under the neck. It doesn't affect a single thing structurally as the neck is bolted up with a little room to spare. The crack can easily be fixed, but it's covered up with the guard and again, doesn't affect playability.
-Okay, here's the deal with the nut. It is a Graphtech ivory pre slotted nut, cut for right handed playing -spent a lot of time sanding it down to fit great! I removed the previous left handed Fender plastic nut. I HAVE NOT GLUED THE NUT IN YET. It's a good tight fit, but I didn't glue it in and figured I'd leave that up to the buyer. If you wish to keep it as an awesome Jimi Hendrix type player, I'll glue it in before I send it off. Otherwise, I'll take it off and include the original plastic nut separately and let you glue it back in!
-Set up with D'Addario 11-49 set
-The neck is the most amazing thing about this guitar! It really has been played and has a natural "Road Worn"/"Relic" thing going on. It just feels and looks awesome! Imagine that, a neck really broken in from actual playing! After oiling up the board, it has a great dark rosewood also.
I am just expirementing as a hobbyist and am by no means a luthier or expert repairman. Just trying to learn as I go. I think this guitar plays awesome, but it is definitely a player, with a TON of upgrades. Thanks for looking!
