The economy forces me to raise money and therefore, I offer a very fine instrument that I thought I would never sell. Never say never. I am not a guitar hero but like to play for own pleasure and have found this guitar to have an essence of it's own, at least in my opinion. I have taken care of the guitar and for the longest thought it was a 1984 model. A friend told me about the 1987 and 1988 models and the history of the American Standard model. He also told me to look at the heel of the neck and the pots and sure enough, it is a 1988 model.
Model info: In 1985 Fender-CBS became Fender-FMIC. The new company found itself without a manufacturing facility. In fact, all that had really been sold was the name and trademark rights and a small amount of leftover parts and inventory. In 1986, the new Fender began manufacture of the American Standard, a revised edition of the 1982 Standard ("Dan Smith") Stratocaster. The American Standard would prove to be Fender's flagship instrument for over a decade. Its features included 22 frets, 4-bolt neckplate 2 pivot point vibrato with updated bridge, 5-way pickup selector blade, and 3 single coil pickups with exposed polepieces.
The guitar is in very good condition but has been played. It has not been "gigged" or abused in any way. There is a ding on the top of the headstock and can be seen in one of the photos. The bottom part of the pickguard shows pick marks from playing the guitar. The frets are in very good shape and show slight wear on the 1st through 5th frets as can be seen in the photo. This guitar has a beautiful original PEWTER finish like the Eric Clapton model. The neck has 5/10/88 penciled in. The serial number begins with E48xxxx. It is Made in the USA.
To me, the guitar plays very well. It stays in tune very nicely and the action is very comfortable. It has a very sweet unplugged vibe that can be felt in the guitar.
The standard Fender ABS rectangular case is included as is the original whammy bar for the vibrato.
If you have questions or need additional images, let me know. I will package the guitar very well and insure it for the purchase price.
