Description
For sale here is my very dear beloved Strat. It breaks my heart to sell it, but it is time for me to move on to a new guitar. I have had this guitar for most of it's life and taken very good care of it. I am a pro musician, and also a guitar salesman and repair tech, so I can assure you this is a great guitar, not just your avereage off the rack Mexi Strat. Here's why this one is better:
The Pickups: I have upgraded the pickups to Fender Samarium Colbalt Noiseless, which are top of the line pickups used in the Deluxe American Strats for many years, this year they finally switched to the N3's which suck in my opinion. The SCN's sound great, the can growl, they can scream, and they are super clean, the best pickups by Fender yet if you ask me. You should notice a huge difference compared to the stock pickups which are thin, shrill, and noisy.
The Neck: This guitar has a great neck, straight, with a touch of relief as it should be, no humps or twists. The edges of the fretboard have been rolled off, this provides an amazing smooth feel, people compare it to the feel of a vintage strat. If you go play a new mexican stratstratstrat, the edge of the fretboard is rather squared off, making it very uncomfortable to play, not an issue here. Also, the fretboard has a light gloss to it which newer models do not, they have a crappy rough feeling surface with almost no finish.
The Frets: The frets are in good shape, showing only very, very minor wear from normal use in one or two places. I had to look very close to see it, you probably won't be able to tell. The frets have been professionally leveled and crowned by an amazing luthier named Tom Hawk in NJ, I drive all the way to NJ from Florida just to have him work on my guitars because he is a genius, also the guy who rolled the fretboard.
The Setup: The guitar will plays great, with low action and great intonation, no buzzing. It will come with DR Pure Blues .011s. I used heavy strings to get a thick tone and low action, if you decide to use lighter strings the guitar will probably need to be re-adjusted by a guitar tech or someone who knows how to do it right, I can even give you tips, but a pro is best.
The Body: Okay, so cosmetically, the condition is not great, but not bad either, from a distance it looks good, if you look close, you will find scratches from the previous owner, a kid who thought it was cool to scratch the guitar in the shape of arrows, he did this to the body, and the pick guard and the jack plate. It never really bothered me, it's really not that bad, I've actually grown to like them, it adds character. I tried to show them in the pics but it was difficult to get them to show up on camera. There are a few other scratches and small dings, etc, looks like a normal used guitar. The finish is NOT worn off anywhere, and still shines. The back plate is missing, because it is annoying and most people take it off anyway. I will try to find it, but no promises there, you can buy one cheap at most music stores. Lastly there is a sticker on the back plate which could probably be scrapped off, Goo Gone works well for that.
The Price: I have put a lot of money into this guitar to make it outplay the average Mexi Strat, it has seen a lot of studio work and people always love it and are often jealous, even those with high end American Strats! Here's a summary of what it's worth:
Mexican Strat new price $599, SCN Pickups $175+$100 installation, rolled neck, fret dress, and setup $100, that adds up to $974! As I said, not your average strat. So I think my price is quite reasonable.
Lastly, it does come with the whammy bar, and I do have a beat up gig bag, I am willing to throw that in for free, it is pretty beat up and has rips, but I still use it, the zipper is good and the guitar is safe in there, I didn't show it because it's pretty tattered and ugly, but if you want it please specify, or email me and it's yours, otherwise I'll trash it.
Thank you, and please give it a good home, I will miss this one a lot!
