NO RESERVE!

Maple neck/fingerboard. Original black finish is in excellent condition, showing NONE of the cloudiness or checking that Fenders of this period are known for.

Looks just like the Strat played by U2's The Edge in the band's early days!

Serial # S 972305. 1979 serial #, 1980 codes on pickups and pots, so the guitar's an early 1980 model. Made in USA, of course.

Very good plus/excellent- condition, about an 8.6 on a scale of 10 cosmetically. Some fairly minor worn finish where your right arm rests and where it sits on your leg when playing while seated. Some wear on the butt end, rear edge. This is rub wear, not chipped off finish. One small chip on the edge of the tummy cut. A few minor not-down-to-the-wood dings here and there. There's a ding on the bass side of the neck around the third fret, and a small one on the treble side edge of the fingerboard just behind the fourth fret as well as on the "E" of the Fender logo...the pics probably tell the story far more eloquently that I can write it! The original cast bridge saddles show the usual string grooves due to age, par for the course, no big deal.
The guitar's in pretty remarkable shape for a 30 plus year old Stratocaster!

No modifications, the guitar is 100% all original, including the solder joints. All hardware is original. (Possible exception: the rear tremolo cover plate is probably not original since it's single layer white and Strats from this era came with 3-ply black cover plates.) Tuners have never been changed. NO fret wear, (there's a TINY wear spot on the 2nd fret under the G string...barely there, and nowhere even close to needing a fret dress...the original medium frets have never been leveled and have their full height) cracks, repairs, or funny stuff. Neck is straight. Truss rod operates fine. Electronics work fine, NO scratchy controls. NO body routing or cracks anywhere.

Pickups are the stock gray bobbin flat magnet neck and middle with "X 1" hotter bridge pickup...Fender began installing the X 1 in all Stratocasters around the late '70s/early '80s. The pickup's DC resistances are: 7.38, (bridge) 5.51, (middle) and 5.52 (neck.)

Typically for Fenders of this period, the guitar is pretty heavy. Weighs exactly 10 pounds. (Weighed on the scale at my post office so it's definitely accurate!) Body is ash, not alder, Fender had already changed to ash as their standard body wood (around '76) by the time this guitar was manufactured.

Typical '70s U shaped neck profile. Neck is slightly under 1 5/8" wide at the nut.

Expertly set up and intonated. Strings are new .010-.046 GHS Boomers. Action is low...very slightly higher on the 1st and 2nd strings to reduce fret-out when bending since this has a vintage 7.25" radius fingerboard.

The guitar plays well without significant fret buzzing. You should be able to take it out and gig with it upon arrival.

Includes original '70s Fender molded hardshell case. Will be packed well for worry free shipping.
