Unleash the fury!
1989 Fender Japan Yngvie Malmsteen Signature Stratocaster. Made (NOT "crafted") In Japan aboove serial number. Early production model. Serial number I011781 dates to 1989-1990. "ST 72 EX/IM" stamped on neck heel. "1990 White Yngvie Strat" (written) and "1M" (stamped) on the body's neck pocket...the pencil writing may not be from the factory.
Unlike its U.S. counterpart, the MIJ Yngvie Stratocaster was modeled on his original 1972 Strat with 3-bolt neck, bullet truss rod, and '70s style logo.
Original finish was Olympic White...a previous owner stripped it and stained the bare wood a streaky greenish turquoise color. The body's basswood, I think. The body also was routed for a bridge position humbucker.
Another rather unwise modification made by a previous owner: The Yngvie signature on the headstock's "ball" has been removed by grinding it off with a Dremel toool or something...whoever did this went through the finish into the wood a bit, although not really deep. I guess whoever owned this guitar previously wanted an Yngvie Strat but didn't want to let anyone know what his secret weapon was? A self hating Yngvie fan? The finish on the rest of the neck is intact.
This guitar was purchased from the same source as the also unwisely altered 1989 U.S. Yngvie Strat I also have listed on eBay...
The entire pickguard/electronics assembly is NOT ORIGINAL. It's wired like a standard Strat, except that the middle and bridge pickup shae the second tone control...this is a popular, commonly done mod, easily undone by clipping or removing one jumper wire if you wish. Not sure if the MIJ Yngvie Strats had TBX controls like the U.S. ones do, but in any case, this guitar doesn't...
The 'guard is a late '70s U.S. Fender 3 ply black pickguard complete with serial number sticker, but it's been presonalized with "7YV1" and some small decorative lines scratched into it.
The bridge and neck pickups are out of a MIM Classic Series Strat, not sure what the middle pickup is...has '70s flat Alnico looking pole pieces and a ceramic magnet on the bottom...pretty sure it's a Fender part, but not sure what it's from. Pots are U.S. CTS, good stuff. The pickup selector switch is a little scratchy, but not too bad. Maybe a little contact cleaner spray might do the trick.
Tremolo cover plate is a non-original U.S. aged Mint Green part. The locking Grover tuners appear to be original...the bridge and neck plate are as well.
No cracks or structural issues anywhere. NO fret wear, NONE, ZERO. Frets have never been dressed and have their full height. I guess whoever owned this guitar previously had a lot of time for misguided mods but no time to PLAY...
Great feeling neck with 21 medium frets, 1 5/8" wide at the nut, C shape profile similar to an early '60s Strat neck. Fingerboard is factory scalloped, of course!
Neck is straight, Electronics work fine.
Very lightweight, estimated at 7 pounds. New .010-.046 gauge strings. Has been carefully set up and intonated, low action, plays and sounds great, ready to rock and roll!!!
Includes Guitar Research gig bag. Will be packed well (double boxed) for worry free shipping.
So there you have it...a Special Edition Japan made Fender signature model Stratocaster, fully functional, with some foolish modifications, that plays and sounds great and actually looks pretty cool too, (with it's sickly green stained body and black 'guard with engraved letters, it looks kinda like a depraved SRV Strat!) priced far below the value of a perfect one. If you're an Yngvie wannabe on a limited budget, this is your ticket to Valhalla!
Sold AS IS, no returns or price adjustments.
