Fender Custom Shop Time Machine Series '56 Strat Relic
All parts original, except the pickguard, which came in white.
Although Time Machine models are team-built at the
Custom Shop, I ordered this Strat with a
masterbuilt-grade bird's eye maple neck.
I was no disappointed. See pictures.
This guitar has been my #1 Strat since I acquired
it new in 2002. Much of its allure from the first
time you grab it is the 10/56 neck, the best neck
on a Strat - at least for my taste. It is substantial
but fast. The pickups are another hit. If you like
a fat, over-wound tone look
elsewhere, but if you
like the classic vintage Strat tone, this is it, in spades.
I play with a very light touch so there is virtually
no fret wear, and, to the extent it can be said of a
relic, it is in near mint condition.
One thing. This is the first and last relic guitar
I've had; first I thought it would be cool but I
discovered I don't really like the relic look,
so I blackened the few spots where the wood
showed. If you like to see the white of the
wood, a moderately abrasive wipe will uncover
those spots. I just thought the body looked
better all black.
I buy and sell guitars constantly but this Strat
is one of the few guitars I kept for many years
and for good reason. I can't tell you exactly in
words, but whoever is lucky to own it next will
understand pretty soon.
This was a "I'll never sell it" instrument, but
such is life; unfortunately it means that I was
not careful to preserve the papers, candy, etc.
So I don't have the Certificate of Authenticity
or anything that came with it, except for the
whammy bar, which I've never used. But be
assured this is the genuine product.
